Live / Work Concept

While attending Harvard Graduate School of Design's Career Discovery Program, I was given the assignment to design a home for a young couple who also needed a space for their design studio. The constraints were that it must be built on a particular lot in Cambridge, Massachusetts, yet retain some of that land for parking. I create a house that is bifurcated into live and work spaces (the work space is on the right when viewed from the front), while unifying the two realms of the couples' lives with a shared chimney. Given the cold Massachusetts winters, hearths were designed for the first floor of the studio, the second floor of the home, and the shared roof deck. Given lack of yard space, a garden-deck was designed into the back of the house.
